Reluctantly parting with my gorgeous Shell Pink 1996 Squier Vista Series Musicmaster bass. This is a very well-made Musicmaster - the vintage Fenders were often made of spare parts and meant as affordable student/beginner basses, so quality varied. Prices are very high for those now, but the Squier Vistas made between 96-97 are definitely superior to the Fenders and remain hidden gems. Four colours were available - Black (506), Arctic White (580), Sonic Blue (572) and Shell Pink (556). This Shell Pink model is mellowing nicely to a subtle and attractive peach tone. The headstocks on the Vistas are painted to match the bodies. The white pickguard has also aged to a soft cream that really compliments the body. (It looks like this headstock may have been painted white before the pink coat went on - I have seen photos of similar traces on other Vistas) According to the serial number on the neck plate, this bass was made in 1996 at the Yako factory in China. It sports the original “Vista Tone” pickup, which is a re-branded Seymour Duncan SCPB-1 pickup with smaller string spacing for the short scale. The bass is short scale with 22 frets and uses a string-through-body with individual string saddles. I’m not sure what the body is, but from what I can find out it’s very likely poplar or alder. The neck is maple with a beautiful multi-toned rosewood fingerboard. This was used as a recording and gigging bass before I acquired it and it has some expected signs of wear and tear, but it is generally in great condition. The action is low and the neck plays great. I have more photos of various details and a sketched diagram of the pickup. I dig this bass a lot and really love how it looks and plays, but I need to finance another long-sought treasure. Available to try out and play in Alvik in Stockholm. I’d really prefer not to mail this bass, but something might be able to be worked out. Payment with Swish.
